Sign Up Your Site

Register your site using the form at the bottom of this web page. The Northwest Branch Clean the Stream event is part of the larger Anacostia River Cleanup & Celebration being conducted by the Anacostia Watershed on Earth Day. AWS coordinates site registration and provides gloves and bags for the cleanup. AWS also helps with publicity and volunteer recruitment. They are a wonderful organization and resource.

Set The Cleanup Date and Time

The Official cleanup is Saturday, April 24, 9am-12pm. It is best to use that time slot, but you can have the cleanup for a shorter period for a small site, or in the afternoon or even on another day if needed. We recommend that you only go for 3 hours as volunteers get tired. Experience also shows that it is best to work rain or shine.

Recruit Your Volunteers

Please think about how you would like to handle volunteers. For a small area, you could just get together a few family members, friends, colleagues, or neighbors. Or you may find a scout troop, school group, or church group to help. In that case, your site would be "closed" to other volunteers. If you need more people, you can use neighborhood listservs or other resources. NNWB and AWS will do broad outreach and publicity to recruit volunteers, so we can help provide contacts and volunteers as well.

One of NNWBs goals is to use this as an opportunity to build a community of people who care about specific sections of the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River, so we encourage you to reach out to and work with people in nearby neighborhoods. We hope they will be interested in future events!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns or other suggestions for volunteers - or if you want any help getting signed up as a leader! We are excited about working with you for a clean, healthy Northwest Branch!
