W. Hyattsville Metro/Northwest Branch Site, October 22
The length of the Northwest Branch easily accessible from the W. Hyattsville Metro Station is a collection point for trash, whether dropped from bridges across the stream or brought down by rushing water from points upstream. So this area was again targeted for cleanup. Veteran litter pickers Elliot Rule, Eric Rogner, Andy Vaskys, and Fred Seitz, joined by several United Way volunteers from Northern Virginia and others, filled 31 bags!
Many thanks to Elliot, Eric, Andy, and to the litter pickers who didn't get in the pictures, but whose work cleaning up the Northwest Branch stream banks and trail is greatly appreciated!

Andy and Eric show off their collection at a second deposit point on the trail, at Queens Chapel Road. That wheelbarrow must have been a big help!

What is this Andy found?

And nothing wrong with a little fun along the way! Andy rides while Eric demonstrates how strong he's gotten picking up litter.

We conclude with a comment by Eric: "Almost every tree that is dangling close to the river was filled with plastic bags. Those are always the biggest pain in the [**@#] to pick up as you may know. I am very happy that they passed the bill in MoCo and wish they would do the same statewide." Neighbors of the Northwest Branch seconds that suggestion!
