Randolph Road/Kemp Mill site
Leader Steve Morrison and five volunteers filled 22 bags with trash from both sides of Randolph Road and both sides of the Northwest Branch. In Steve's words:
"We left the area much cleaner than we found it, accumulating 22 orange plastic Parks volunteer bags full of bottles and other trash including plastic "stuff", heavily rusted auto items and hub caps, abandoned heavy-duty pipes, paper and cardboard signs and other, indescribable material that looked like it was abandoned long ago, plus an assortment of contemporary candy wrappers. ... At the conclusion of the trash collection, I presented a brief history of the milling activity in the area since 1797 by reading from a metal tablet erected by the Parks Department at the corner of Randolph Road and abandoned Old Randolph Road. ... Perhaps the most fascinating antique artifact we collected was a 6" x 6" wooden pole, 20 feet long, with a Bell Atlantic molded-plastic switch-box attached."
Material the team could not extract included "a mostly buried ceramic toilet, assorted car parts, partially buried, and medication bottles."
Good job, everyone! Many thanks!
