Rachel Carson Birthday Walk

Ten people joined Neighbors of Northwest Branch's and Conservation Montgomery's stroll along the Northwest Branch on May 20. The group included Councilmember Nancy Floreen, Caren Madsen of Conservation Montgomery and Kim Knox of the Neighbors of Northwest Branch. Organized by Knox, the stroll was to celebrate Rachel Carson's birthday on May 27.

The group included three high school and one middle school student as they enjoyed the beauty of the water and the woods and learned more about Rachel Carson and her encouragement to instill a sense of wonder about nature in children.

The weather was perfect, the forest was lovely and there was not a lot of trash along the Northwest Branch. But no one minded picking the small amount of trash along the trail in recognition of the beauty of the Northwest Branch and in celebration of Rachel Carson.
