Rain Garden Workday
On October 25, the newly formed Woodmoor Pinecrest Green Team built a demonstration residential rain garden (a rain barrel will be installed later). The intent of the green team is to get homeowners to become more involved with stewardship and other environmental activities in the community. The Woodmoor Pinecrest community was built before modern stormwater practices were required. As a result polluted stormwater runoff from the community is a problem for the Northwest Branch. Members of the Neighbors of the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia (NNWB) living in the community agreed that it was important to organize their neighbors to reduce the environmental impacts they were having on the environment. By working together the Green Team hopes neighbors will be more effective.
The site for the rain garden was selected to capture runoff from the front roof.
Miss Utility came out and marked the locations of all the utilities before the workday.
