A rain garden soil mix (50% sand, 25% compost and 25% top soil) was used to fill in the excavated area. The rain garden was slightly sunken to encourage rain water retention. Native plants and mulch were added. Later, a rain barrel will be added to the rain leader seen of the right. The overflow from the rain barrel will be directed to the rain garden. By spring the rain garden will not only cleanse stormwater runoff, it will also become a habitat area for our native pollinators.
