Update to Sewer Leakage into NW Branch
Leak Patched

Back to Photo Gallery

The leak was reported to WSSC about noon on Sunday, October 31, 2004. Within an hour a WSSC crew was on the scene. The leak was reported as patched by 4:30pm that same day. On Tuesday, November 2, Clair Garman visited the site and took the following photos.

The patched pipe joint was covered with cardboard.
A band patch had been placed around the pipe at the place where another joint had been removed.
On the ground next to the band patch a piece of the old joint can be seen.

The cardboard was moved aside revealing the earth piled around the patch joint.
The exact nature of the patch could not be determined, but the carton was labelled with a cement product,
so a cement patch covered by earth is assumed.
The cardboard was restored after taking the photo.
Its purpose is assumed to be the reduction of washout of the soil around the patched joint.
The water running beneath the pipe was clear and had no odor.
It was the natural drainage from the side creek in which the sewer pipe lay.

The water running into NW Branch was clear.
Grey deposits remained on the rocks from the pipe leak.
