Sewer Leakage into NW Branch
September 2005

Bill Howard has reported a sewer leakage to WSSC. The location of the leaks is in the Springbrook Forest neighborhood of Silver Spring, just south of, and on the same side of the street as, 12121 Remington Road, leading downhill from an area with guardrails that crosses over a steep stream valley. A PEPCO pole nearby has the number 796444-4157, and there is a small path leading down from the road along the stream valley. There are two manholes/stacks near the road, in the stream valley, at least one of which is in poor repair. There is some smell in this area, but the smell gets much worse downhill, near the next manhole, which is also in very bad repair. The smell is also very noticeable downhill, right where this tributary (and presumably the leaking sewer), crosses the footpath and enters directly into the Northwest Branch.
